Old Ironsides, the USS Constitution
The USS Constitution, also known as "Old Ironsides," is the world's oldest commissioned warship still afloat. The ship, owned and operated by the U.S. Navy, is more than 200 years old and is still completely seaworthy. It is berthed at the Charlestown Navy Yard, just across the Charles River from Boston.

In 1638, just eight years after Bostons founding, the first enslaved people of African descent arrived in the Massachusetts Bay Colony on the slave ship [i]Desire[/i]. So began the saga of African Americans in Massachusetts. From slavery to freedom and on a continuing quest for equality, their journey is chronicled at Bostons Museum of African American History.
